  • Yardley

    12" x 16" oil on canvas with a 2 inch wood white frame.

    Yardley was the name given to the first Bailey bridge built by the Canadian Engineering Corps in Germany.

    Constructed in the winter of 1944 it was apx. 400 metres in length. Never before had the Canadian Army built a Bailey bridge this long. The project was a key component in preparation for Operation Veritable, the Canadian Army's large scale operation in the Rhineland in the early months of 1944.

  • Quebec

    12" x 16" oil on canvas in a 2 inch green wood frame.

    Quebec was the name given to a Bailey Bridge built by the British and Canadian Engineers in the winter of 1944. The bridge was constructed to cross the Maas River between Ravenstein and Niftrik in Gelderland.

    Over 1,000 British and 300 Canadian Engineers collaborated to construct the bridge during the harsh winter of 1944.

    This bridge was a key element in the Canadian Armies entrance into the German Rhineland early in 1945.

  • Juno Beach Winter 1944

    10" x 10" oil on canvas with a 2 inch wood white frame.

    On June 6th 1944 units of the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division assaulted Juno Beach and succeeded in wresting control of the area from defending German troops.

    This painting was inspired by aerial reconnaissance photographs taken of the landing areas of the beach during the winter of 1944.

  • Juno Beach Spring 1943

    12" x 12" oil on canvas with a 2 inch black wood frame

    Juno Beach was one of five code names of the Normandy Beaches that were to be the landing areas of the Allied Forces on the morning of June 6th 1944.

    Prior to the invasion, hundreds of thousands of aerial reconnaissance images were produced to assist the Allies in their planning process. Many of these images served as the guidelines for the creation of maps used on the ground by common foot soldiers.

  • Juno Beach Snowfall Winter 1943

    12" x 9" oil on canvas in a 1.5 inch white wood frame.

    As the Allied Forces prepared for the liberation of Europe it was vital that they create accutate maps of the east coast of Europe.

    A massive aerial reconnaissance effort was made to photograph every inch of the coastline throughout 1943 and 1944 in order to develop an complete understanding of the defensive mechanisms that would stand in the way of the liberation of Europe.
